If you’re anything like me, you love Sephora. I still remember signing up for the Beauty Insider program soon after its initial launch while I was at the Columbus Circle store in NYC. So when they started a $10/month subscription box called Play! by Sephora, I was quick to sign up as soon as I was off the waiting list. I’ve loved it every single month, so I was thrilled to see another limited edition, no subscription required Play! box called The All-Star Edition, which included 6 luxury deluxe sample products in a collectible bag. You can guess what happened next: I ordered it, and thanks to free 2-day shipping for Rouge members, it was in my hands in no time. Curious to see what was in the box? Read on!
The collectible holographic cosmetic bag is so fun, and definitely made a great first impression. I loved that instead of the usual fold-up guide found in the monthly boxes, this included “tarot” cards. There’s one for each product inside, with a description on the back, a “fortune,” and words of wisdom.
Now for my favorite part…the samples!
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (0.14 fl. oz.)
Full size (1 fl. oz.) – $54.00
When I think of Hourglass products, I think of the Ambient Lighting powders (some of my all-time favorites!) and this primer. I’ve never gotten a deluxe sample of this, only foil packets, which I find a bit tough to truly test out. I’m really excited to see if this primer is as good as people say it is! Bonus: it’s oil-free! YAY!
TOM FORD Lip Color in Indian Rose (.03 oz.)
Full size (0.1 oz) – $54.00
Oh. My. God. So, I’ll admit, when I got the email that this box was available, I saw “TOM FORD” in the description and was sold. I didn’t know what the product would be, but I was so excited to see it was a deluxe lipstick sample. Not only is this the cutest and most elegant-looking lipstick sample I’ve ever gotten, but the color is gorgeous. I love TOM FORD lipsticks but had never tried this shade. I absolutely love it! It’s a beautiful mauve-y rose color that I worried would be too dark for my fair skin, but I ended up loving it!
AMOREPACIFIC Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Cream (0.27 fl. oz.)
Full size (1.7 fl. oz.) – $150.00
I always love getting decent-sized samples of products that are normally crazy expensive, and this definitely fit the bill! This is a moisturizer that also protects skin and is anti-aging. I don’t use a ton of products that are specifically anti-aging (tsk, tsk, I know), so I passed this along to my mom who was so excited to try it out!
Dior Diorshow Mascara in Black (0.05 fl. oz.)
Full size (0.33 fl. oz.) – $28.50
If you’re at all into beauty products, I’m sure you’ve heard of and probably used this mascara. This was one of the first mascaras I ever tried, and I still find myself going back to it every so often. The brush is huge and fluffy, and the mascara itself definitely adds volume to lashes. Sometimes I adore this mascara, other times I’m sort of “meh” about it, especially with samples because the brush is so big that it’s hard to get much product onto the entire thing. I love having backup mascara samples though, just in case I forget that I need to get a new one of whatever my current favorite is. I’ll get some use out of this, for sure!
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (0.3 fl. oz.)
Full size (2.5 fl. oz.) – $99.00
SK-II was another brand I was excited to see in the description of this box. I never buy myself SK-II products because they’re so pricey, but I’ve gotten a few samples of their sheet masks and loved them. So many people rave about this treatment, and I can’t wait to try it and see what all the fuss is about! Fingers crossed it doesn’t lead to any breakouts!
VIKTOR & ROLF Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum (0.1 fl. oz.)
Full size (1 fl. oz.) $85.00
Perfume samples aren’t normally my favorites, as I have a super sensitive nose and spend a lot of time around my mom who has an even more sensitive nose. I actually love the smell of this one, though! Floral scents are the ones I have the most trouble with (seriously, if people are wearing strong floral scents around me, I need about twenty tissues), but this one didn’t send my nose into stop-torturing-me mode. I can definitely see myself wearing this in super small doses.
This box is a definite winner in my book. I’m not good enough at math to attempt to figure out how much the samples are worth (if you are, you can definitely let me and any readers know in the comments!), but I’m pretty sure it’s higher than the box’s $20 price tag. As far as I can tell, this box is no longer available at Sephora, but keep an eye out on the site because this isn’t the first limited edition box they’ve sold!
